Frequently Asked Question About Moving Supplies
How many boxes do I need?
Unfortunately, there’s not a simple formula that will tell you how many boxes you need. Packing each item safely is more than a matter of weight and size, and certain items will need their own cardboard boxes for moving.
It can be helpful to sort your items before you move so that you isolate every item that will need its own box (antiques, crystal, artwork). After you have that count, you can start estimating the remaining boxes you’ll need by the room that the rest of your possessions take up.
Why choose packing paper over newspapers?
Packing paper is the right tool for the job for several reasons. First, like our other moving supplies, it is built for the job. It is thicker, stiffer and holds its shape far better than newspapers. This can be a very important set of qualities when it comes to protecting your valuables. The same amount of packing paper will protect fragile items in situations where newspapers wouldn’t absorb enough of the shock.
Packing paper also matters when it comes to protecting your kitchen items. Newspaper inks are not considered safe for consumption, and they rub off easily on any items that they’re wrapped in. For this reason, newspapers should especially not be used to pack dishes, cookware, and eating utensils.
How should I prepare appliances for moving?
Large appliances should be prepared as far in advance of the moving day as is practical. Your dryer, washer, refrigerator, and freezers will need to be disconnected. Refrigerators and freezers will often need time to dry before they are packed.
Make sure you have the correct moving supplies for appliances. Washers may be damaged if stabilizers aren’t installed before it is moved.
